St. Kitts and Nevis and Canada usher in a new era in relations

(PRESS RELEASE) – Amid senior government officials from Canada, members of the Ottawa diplomatic corps and proud citizens of St. Kitts and Nevis, the Federation`s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Honourable Mark Brantley, and Honourable Matt Decourcey raised glasses in honour of the establishment of the Federation`s chancery in Ottawa.

The Canadian government representative conveyed that the St Kitts and Nevis presence in Ottawa was a sign of confidence in and respect for the relationship. He offered hope for a new era in the partnership for more active and direct bilateral engagement through the High Commission. The Federation`s Foreign Minister thanked Canada for its partnership and cooperation over the years and pledged to keep working not only bilaterally but regionally through CARICOM and internationally through the OAS, the UN and the Commonwealth.

The opening of the new High Commission in Canada`s capital come as Canada is celebrating a year long anniversary of its one hundred and fiftieth year of confederation. Minister Brantley used the opportunity to highlight the symbolic importance of both milestones.
