A National Consultation is underway in Trinidad and Tobago on implementing the CARICOM Single Market Economy (CSME).
The process started on Tuesday and will run through Friday, both in Trinidad and Tobago.
This, as work continues toward a more prosperous, integrated, resilient, and competitive region.
Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs, Dr. Amery Browne, said the National Consultation on the CARICOM Single Market and the Economy’s implementation arrangements and procedures is a giant step toward realising the vision of a united CARICOM.
“This generation and generations to come will be much stronger, much more powerful because our collective strengths will be harnessed effectively. So that’s why we’re here. These are National Consultations. The talk is always that ‘people are not included enough.’ We brought the experts from the CARICOM Secretariat, and we’re connecting with stakeholders from right across Trinidad and Tobago, including the THA.”
Minister of Trade and Industry, Paula Gopee-Scoon, said her Ministry has been working hard to help achieve the regional goal.
“By removing barriers to the free movement of goods, services, capital, and labour, the CSME enables us to act cohesively, advancing economic development for the people of the region. Trinidad and Tobago fully supports the region’s goal for the CSME to build an economic space where businesses thrive, citizens can move freely, and for our economies to grow and approach global challenges with a united front.”
