CARICOM looking to deepen relations with Republic of Kazakhstan

GEORGETOWN, Guyana, CMC –The 15-member regional integration grouping, CARICOM), says it is looking forward to advance the ongoing relationship with Republic of Kazakhstan, the world’s largest landlocked country that shares borders with Russia, China, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan.

CARICOM Secretary General, Irwin LaRocque in a congratulatory message to Kazakhstan’s President,  Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, on the occasion of his inauguration into office, said that Kazakhstan and CARICOM have been building on their relations over the years and in this stead, the regional grouping  welcomes further opportunities to advance these relations with his administration.

“On behalf of the Caribbean Community, it is my pleasure to extend sincere congratulations to you on your recent victory in the presidential elections in Kazakhstan. I take this opportunity to renew the commitment of the Community to promoting dialogue and cooperation with Kazakhstan,” LaRocque said in the brief statement.

Earlier this year, Kazakhstan’s Ambassador to CARICOM, Andrian Yelemessov presented his credentials to LaRocque. Kazakhstan has diplomatic relations with 13 CARICOM states.

In 2017, bilateral trade between Kazakhstan and CARICOM member states totalled an estimated US$249,000, including US$8, 200 in export and 241,000 in import.
