Russia's MiG Developing 15-Tonne Heavy Combat Drone

The Russian Aircraft Corporation MiG is developing a heavy unmanned combat aerial vehicle.

KUBINKA (Moscow Region) (Sputnik) — A heavy unmanned combat aerial vehicle being developed by Russian Aircraft Corporation MiG will have a weight of 15 metric tons (more than 33,000 pounds), the company's general director, Ilya Tarasenko, told reporters at the Army-2017 forum Tuesday.

"The heavy drone which we are currently developing will have a weight of 15 tons," Tarasenko said.

Tarasenko stressed that all the drones developed by the company, including light, medium and heavy, will have a weight in the range of 100 kilograms (220 pounds) to 15 tons.

Russia hosts the Army-2017 exhibition, which starts on Tuesday and concludes on August 27, to showcase hi-tech military innovations and achievements. More than 300 representatives of the foreign defense ministries will participate in the forum, according to Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu.
